George H. (Jody) Tompson is a Professor of Management and Entrepreneurship in the Sykes College of Business at the University of Tampa. He earned a PhD in strategic management from the University of South Carolina in 1995. Before coming to UT in July of 2000, he lived and worked in New Zealand for four years. At UT, he teaches courses in entrepreneurship and strategic management to both undergraduates and MBAs. His research interests are top management team decision making, turnaround strategies, and new venture strategies. He has published articles in Strategic Management Journal, Entrepreneurship Theory & Practice, Small Business Economics, and Journal of Business Venturing.
In addition to teaching and research roles, Jody is the Director of the Naimoli Institute for Business Strategy. Through the Institute, UT students write a strategic analysis of about 20 companies per semester. The projects include a comprehensive analysis of the company and its industry, and then conclude with recommendations for improving performance.
